BBC Panorama: The Antidepressant Story – June 2023

The APPG for Prescribed Drug Dependence will release its official response to the upcoming documentary following its broadcast on June 19th. For individuals affected by the issues raised in the program, useful resources and support links are available here.

The APPG continues to advocate for the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to allocate dedicated funding for:

• Local Withdrawal Support Services: Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) are encouraged to establish these services as outlined in the commissioning framework ‘Optimising Personalised Care for Adults Prescribed Medicines Associated with Dependence or Withdrawal Symptoms.’
• A National 24-Hour Withdrawal Helpline and Website: This initiative was recommended in the 2019 Public Health England (PHE) Prescribed Medicines Review.
